Astros place one win away from winning The World Series 2019

WASHINGTON -- The Astros handed the ball over to Gerrit Cole, who gave them that trust. Now, Houston is one win away from being crowned in the World Series.

But to do that you need to win as a local, something that seems impossible in this Autumn Classic.

And without his star Max Scherzer, sidelined from commitment to a neck ailment, the Washington Nationals suffered a new home defeat.

Cole looked exactly like the ace who dominated the rivals for much of this campaign, to vindicate himself after the defeat in the first game, and the Astros doubled the Nationals on Sunday 7-1 to take a 3–2 lead in the series.

"He knew what this game meant for this series," Houston manager AJ Hinch said. "So there was no one better to climb the mound."

Cuban rookie Yordan Alvarez woke up with a two-run home run, the same as Puerto Rican Carlos Correa. Both slamming reached Joe Ross, who suddenly opened the encounter.

George Srpinger claimed another bambinazo in the postseason and Houston spinned his third Nationals Park triumph.

"It's hard to identify a single reason, but I love how this moment feels and what this team looks like," Hinch said. "Everyone talks about culture and chemistry. When you have that, you love it. When you see him on the other team, you die of envy."

Outnumbered 17-7 combined at Minute Maid Park, the Astros scored 19 runs and received only three in the US capital.

"We actually connect some balls well. We really did," said Washington Puerto Rican manager Dave Martinez. "We just couldn't accomplish anything in the last three days."
