The fires in California will leave two million people without power 2019

They keep 50,000 people evacuated
Washington.- Firefighters in California continue to fight several fires that have burned large areas and keep 50,000 people evacuated, while the Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) power company to cut off the supply to two million people.

"This is definitely an event that we are calling historical and extreme. What makes it really special is the amount of time these winds are going to be maintained," said David King of the National Meteorology Service of the Monterrey office.

The efforts of the authorities take place from end to end of the state, although the most affected are in the north, around the San Francisco area.

There, resources are focused on trying to control the Kincade fire, which has already burned 21,900 acres (8,862 hectares) in Sonoma County, a wine area that was already affected in 2017 by a fire that killed 30 people.

The combination of voracious fires plus the strong winds that are expected in California throughout the weekend raise danger and risk.

Forecasts indicate that winds will blow steadily between Saturday and Monday morning.

In a statement, the power company warned that the potentially powerful and widespread scenario of dryness, heat and wind could threaten the service until Monday, while preparing to cut the service to more than 2 million people.

PG&E has already suppressed the supply in several rural areas due to the fall of cables and the risk of contributing to generate new sources of fire.

The emergency could be extended after the forecasts of the National Meteorological Service (NWS) especially on the weekend when the low humidity and gusts of wind could reach up to 80 miles per hour in the north of the state.
