Us lower house to vote Thursday on impeachment against Trump 2019

The move will "set the next steps for the investigation," that source said after the lower house Democratic president, Nancy Pelosi, will brief her party colleagues on the plan.

That decision seems intended to respond to Trump and Republicans who claim that the investigation into the president for a possible abuse of power to harm his Democratic rival Joe Biden lacks legitimacy because it has not been voted on in Congress.

"This week we will be conducting a resolution to the Hemicycle that ratifies the investigation currently carried out by our committees as part of the investigation with a view to a political trial," Pelosi said in a letter to his party.

The measure is likely to be passed in the House of Representatives, as Democrats have a majority of 228 seats there in 435.

The text to be put to a vote "establishes the procedure for hearings that are open to the American people, authorizes the disclosure of transcripts of statements (and) defines the processes for transferring evidence to the Judiciary Committee while he studies possible articles on a political trial," he added.

So far all the testimony in the Trump investigation was conducted behind closed doors, prompting criticism from Republicans about the hidden character and illegitimacy of the process.
