Local authorities warned on Tuesday that the more than 10,000 residents of the exclusive Los Angeles area affected by the Getty fire - home to celebrities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and NBA star LeBron James -- they won't be able to go home at the moment.
At a press conference, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said that "even though smoke is not seen in the same amounts as yesterday, the evacuation order stands."
Among the evacuees are actress Kristin Davis, known for her role in the series "Sex and the City"; Garcetti's own parents and Schwarzenegger's ex-wife Maria Shriver.
Evacuations continue through the strong winds expected to night of up to 112 kilometers per hour and could stoke the fire.
Garcetti advised citizens to heed the instructions of firefighters and other fire-fighting professionals to stay safe.
The emergency for Northern California is even greater, where authorities reported that another fire, the Kincade fire, has already consumed 30,519 hectares and destroyed 123 structures, including 53 houses.
Nearly 156,000 people remain outside their homes in Sonoma County.
Residents of entire cities such as Geyserville, Windsor and Healdsburg filled dozens of shelters from Petaluma to the San Francisco city.
