Jair Bolsonaro declared himself worried about “instability” in Latin America 2019

The president of Brazil expressed his opinion about the anti-government demonstrations in Chile and Ecuador The Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, expressed his concern on Saturday about the situation of “instability” in Latin America when he was questioned about the current protests in countries like Chile and Ecuador, and the electoral scene in Argentina and Bolivia. “Latin America has to be stable. That situation worries us. The concern exists, ”said the president in statements he gave to Brazilian journalists in Abu Dhabi, where he landed on Saturday for an official visit to the United Arab Emirates.

The president, however, was more restrained than in the statements he made about the region in recent days, in which he threatened to exclude Argentina from Mercosur in case the Peronist Alberto Fernández wins the presidential elections on Sunday and referred to the protests in Chile as "terrorists." Bolsonaro also refrained from commenting on the situation in Bolivia after the Brazilian Foreign Ministry affirmed that, "for the moment", it does not recognize the re-election of Bolivian President Evo Morales in the controversial elections of last Sunday and that he supports an audit of the electoral process as they propose the opposition and the OAS. He was also more resigned with the possible electoral victory of Fernández in the elections, as the polls foresee. “I hope that the future president of Argentina is aligned with the directions of Mercosur, the opening of the market and the democratic clauses of the block, which Venezuela did not comply with. Venezuela could not have entered Mercosur, ”Bolsonaro said in the United Arab Emirates.

On Wednesday, in Tokyo, he came to affirm that the return to power of Cristina Kirchner (candidate for vice president in the key of Fernández) represented the return of the Forum of Sao Paulo to the government of Argentina and puts Mercosur at risk, so, He said, Brazil has to think about alternatives, among which he mentioned the possible expulsion from the neighboring country of the block.

Following the fears expressed by Bolsonaro in recent months, Fernández has already advanced that he does not intend to "close" the economy, which seeks to maintain its alliances with Brazil and that considers Mercosur as a priority for Argentina.

"Concern also exists with Chile, where (the crisis over the demonstrations) is increasing," said Bolsonaro, who came to classify the protests as terrorist acts and said Brazil was prepared to mobilize its Armed Forces to avoid similar acts in the country. .

In his opinion, the protests that occur in some countries of the region are led by the Sao Paulo Forum and leftist movements that try to regain power.

"We are collaborating, as far as possible, with democratic stability (in the region). Brazil is very important for South America," he said.

Shortly before his statements, the ultra-right-wing leader posted on his Twitter account a video in which one of his sons, Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, attributed to the Sao Paulo Forum the instability that the region is experiencing.

"The Forum of Sao Paulo continues with its plans to generate instability in Latin America," said the president.

In the video, in a statement in Congress, Eduardo Bolsonaro cites demonstrations in Chile and Ecuador, as well as instability in Peru, as demonstrations that the plans of the Sao Paulo Forum are going as expected, as, he says, he said the "narco-conditioner Nicolás Maduro" in a speech this week.

"The situation in Argentina is calm (without demonstrations) because everything is on track so that Cristina Kirchner, who is a member of the Sao Paulo Forum, returns to power," said the deputy. "Do not be surprised if there is more instability (in the region)," he concluded.
