U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday denounced Chile's interference from other nations, with the aim of "undermining" its institutions, democracy, and society, amid the protests that have rocked Chile for two weeks.
Trump made those statements in a call he held on Wednesday with his Chilean counterpart, Sebastian Piñera, the White House reported.
"The U.S. backs Chile, an important ally, as it works to peacefully restore its national order. President Trump denounced foreign efforts to undermine Chilean institutions, democracy, or society," said White House spokesman Judd Deere.
