Vladimir Putin agrees to visit Cuba and Miguel Diaz-Canel confirmed his trip to Moscow in 2020

Russia's President Vladimir Putin today accepted cuba's President Miguel Díaz-Canel's invitation to visit the country, while the Cuban representative confirmed his attendance in 2020 to the 75th anniversary celebrations of Russia's victory over Germany in World War II.

"I take this opportunity to once again ratify the invitation for you to visit Cuba whenever it may be," Diaz-Canel said when meeting with Putin in Novo-Ogariovo, the Russian president's country residence on the outskirts of Moscow.

"I will take advantage of the invitation without fail, " replied Putin.

Diaz-Canel said that "this visit has a great deal of significance for us being a work visit," he added, noting that it is the first one that makes Russia president of Cuba after going through several Eurasian countries such as Belarus and Azerbaijan.

"And I think it's very significant that we're here, because it's a sign to the world of all the interest, of all the importance and of all the priority we give to relations with Russia," he said.

Diaz-Canel also thanked Putin for his invitation to the 75th anniversary next year of the Great Patriotic War and the liberation against fascism, in reference to the celebrations on May 9 in The Red Square for the Russian victory over Germany in the Second War World.

And I confirm that we will be present at this celebration. It's from Russia, but it's a celebration of the world and the world owes a lot to Russia for what it has accomplished in the Great Patriotic War," he said.

The President of Cuba also conveyed to Putin an "affectionate greeting from the former representative and leader of the ruling Communist Party of Cuba, Raúl Castro," something to which the Russian president responded by sending his "most cordial" greetings back.

"I'm glad to see you again in Moscow. Last year he was on an official visit, but in this capacity (as president) is the first time. And I would like to congratulate you on your election" as President of the Republic, Putin said.

"We continue our contacts at high and highest level permanently. We actively cooperate and support each other in the international arena. Russia has always supported Cuba's independent and sovereign stance," said the Russian president, who was sympathetic"in the face of the rather difficult conditions" that the island is going through.

In these circumstances it is not easy to solve social and economic problems, "but you have succeeded in doing so," he added.
